AWC Predoctoral Fellow
Benjamin Norwood Harris is an America in the World Consortium predoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins SAIS and a PhD candidate at MIT. His dissertation research addresses how states assess their odds of victory and likely casualties before war. In other research projects, he examines how emerging technologies affect war initiation; how nations reach arms control agreements; and how military casualties shape public opinion. Methodologically, his research relies on experimental wargaming, case studies, and survey experiments. His work has appeared in International Studies Quarterly, PS: Political Science & Politics, and The Journal of Experimental Political Science. Ben completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia as a Jefferson Scholar and finished his Master’s degree at Tsinghua University through the Schwarzman Scholars Program. He has held research positions at the RAND Corporation, the Naval War College, the Centre for the Governance of AI, and the Special Competitive Studies Project.
